Yea that’s rare, I know a lot of our flyers have been OOS especially the 1000’s, low 1400’s and some of the 1600’s

Might be an exception since it's moving equipment that needs repairs back and forth
  5. Yea it is but normally I thought they scrap em from the yard
  6. Haven't 3259-60 gone through a lot over the years? Weren't they on LTH for a while?
  7. the only cars brown got from the blue recently were 3259-3260. maybe some more have appeared after some time
  8. there was a D40LF yesterday and today on a south shops block on the 56

Also the newer nova’s have a lot of safety features and sensors which helps on Milwaukee especially with the amount of bikes on that route. I tried to pull a flyer out on a Milwaukee run and was told that would never happen anymore. Higher ups want the 56 all Novas. The check out window and supervisors will always make sure a nova is on the route. They go to extreme lengths to make sure of it

I kind of want to buy a D40LF off of ebay or whatever and paint it up like a CTA bus and run it in front of HQ whenever there's a news story. Being serious though, I rode a D40 on the 56 to the 75th anniversary of the CTA and I really enjoyed it, so sad to see them go.
  11. When the media does reports from outside of CTA HQ, CTA probably wants to make sure the cameras get shots of the new equipment should any pass by. Any TA, private carrier that knows there's a photo opportunity will want to showcase its newest and beat looking equipment. if we're being honest the best looking New Flyer bus still looks dated In this Day and age, videos are seen around the world, not just in Chicago.

Belmont is heavier than 56 though so you'd think they'd out novas there too unless it's not enough for both? I was thinking because 56 was longer, deadheads on the exoressway and interlines at Jeff Pk giving more wear and tear. Why is newer buses passing the headquarters so important?
  13. Perhaps it's a high profile route. It does pass right by CTA Headquarters. It also is a suggested route for tourists to take to Millennium Park. I'm bit for sure, but the 20 may have the same mandate. I would expect something similar on the 65 and 66 ( with electrics in addition to Novas ) . But the execs could have other reasons as well.
  14. Cta is trying something to maybe update the flyers with that same system. Flyer 1606 at FG has that announcement when turning the wheel.

Upper management only wants newer equipment (Nova 8343+ and up) running on the 56 because it’s a heavy ridership route and it passes Cta headquarters. The flyers are assigned primarily on Central, Belmont, Austin, Diversey and sometimes Lawrence. You will never see a flyer on Milwaukee unless P is asssiting and filling a run you may even see artic once a blue moon filling a run.

Why did they make this decision?

I work at FG and the 56 can only have Novas because that decision came from 567. In terms of bus swaps I think 1005,1006,1008,1735 are short term loans.

  19. I'll have a go at this, I have nothing going on right now so why not? It's gonna be skewed because the farthest south I've taken the buses is 59th street (appx) and I rarely ride pace Pace: 290 Touhy 213 Green Bay Road (one of the first Pace routes I rode and it goes to my grandma's house) 318 North Avenue Milwaukee Pulse CTA: 78 Montrose (Love Hate relationship) 50 Damen (my childhood was based around the 50) 77 Belmont (same reason as last one) X49 (I used to love riding it home from school when it came back) 151 (just so funny how pathetically slow and unreliable it is) 66 (electric bus go brrr) 146 (flying down LSD is amazing) If I did least favorite routes, the list would be a LOT longer
  20. I see 6585 but wait what is a train doing in the boneyard 🤣🤣🤣
  21. I think it's the latter. Consists also can change when certain cars need to be decoupled for maintenance. It's entirely possible that 6 of 8 cars are 3200s just like there are consists of all 2600s on the Brown Line. I don't think 3200s will start returning to the Brown Line until the Blue Line is only made up of 7000s and 3200s. In fact, based on my recent observations it's the BLUE LINE that has the majority of the 6/8 consists being 3200s. There were a bunch of 2600s laid up in the Forest Park yard. I don't know if they were just resting. Being prepped for the Brown or Irange Line, or preparing to be scrapped. Based on a misplaced post by @Bus1883 some 2600s recently went to the scrapper.
  22. I think the brown line is getting some 3200s back from the blue. For the first time in a couple years, i saw a train where 6/8ths of the cars were 3200s. Either the new 7ks have displaced some of the 3200s from the blue, or Kimball yard has a bunch of 3200s they haven't been using as much. It could also be that I've started noticing the train consists more.
  23. Another recent departure from last month this may be unrelated to 6400s but if u look hard enough it’s not. Let’s play I spy with my little eye.
  24. The 90 Harlem has been put as all novas since Tuesday
  25. When NICTD raised fares in the Hammond-East Chicago zone in response to a Metra fare hike, it did so to discourage Hegewisch passengers from using free parking in Hammond and East Chicago, as the Metra parking operator charges. I assume more parking will be provided in Hammond, as it has been from Miller east. The theory behind the Gateway Station was that the Hammond mayor wanted a place to transfer from West Lake [now Monon] corridor trains to [now] Lakeshore trains. Some maps had the new line swinging east to around Johnson Ave to a junction east of the Hammond station, but the actual construction was pretty much straight north over Hohman Ave and the swamps around the Grand Calumet River. BTW, with the demise of Hammond Transit, access to what's left of downtown isn't too convenient. When the Dan Rabin TC was still open, I was thinking about a rail station there, but it isn't.
