  1. 2200-series - Service Dates

I got to go on 2348 yesterday. It is on the roof of 1K Fulton. Looks a little different these days, but still has many of the classic features.
  2. 2600-series - Service Dates

I forgot to credit the article this photo appeared in: http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20170620/BLOGS04/170629981/photos-united-centers-new-madhouse-team-store Can't wait to see it in person. I thought about that, but it looks way too detailed to be a reproduction. If you look closely at the door, it has the section of rubber edging that was installed later. Also, the peeling don't cross between cars sticker seems like something they wouldn't have put on a reproduction.
  3. 2600-series - Service Dates

Looks like a retired 2600 has found a home in the new Bulls/Hawks store at the United Center. Can't tell the actual number because they replaced it with 555
  4. 95th Red Line Station Rebuild

If they want to run 10 car trains on the red, they'd need to extend at least some of the loop stations so they can accommodate the trains when there are issues in the subway and they have to go over the top
  5. 7000-series - Procurement

These cars are so boring. It's a slightly nicer 5000 which was a slightly nicer 3200 which was a slightly nicer 2600, etc. I wish government agencies weren't so stuck in their ways and could innovate. The one feature I wish they had was passenger operated door opening buttons like you see in Europe. It would be nice to not sit at a station in the winter with the doors open for 5 minutes.
  6. Detailed 3200s Rehab Progress

Regular Brown line rider as well and I've noticed the same. Not sure the hold-up. Also still no LED run boxes.
  7. Detailed 3200s Rehab Progress

I've. Noticed that before. Been like that awhile. Not sure what the story is.
  8. 2400-series - Service Dates

2541 has made it's final trip to the roof of a building under construction in Logan Square. A bunch of other pictures and more information are located here: http://chicagoist.com/2016/04/07/photos_new_luxury_logan_square_rent.php
  9. 7000-series - Procurement

Crains is reporting that CSR has in fact won with a bid that was $200 million lower than Bombardier http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20160309/BLOGS02/160309813/-1b-cta-contract-calls-for-train-cars-built-in-pullman-by-chinese-firm
  10. Blue Line Collision

Very interesting. There was one guy in a red jacket who throws himself on the floor clearly after the actual collision.
  11. 3200-series - Rehabs

Does this help? I used the full resolution pic & cropped/zoomed in on the wheels. You can see the rehabbed (left) & un-rehabbed (right)
  12. 3200-series - Rehabs

I got some good pictures of fully rehabbed 3313. It was so much cleaner looking than its neighbor. Looks like a 5000 almost. Also, another nice & easy way to tell if a 3200 has been fully done is to look at the equipment under the train. Look at the two wheel-sets to compare.
  13. Red & Purple Modernization Project (RPM)

How's the running time from Howard to Belmont?
  14. Red & Purple Modernization Project (RPM)

A new slow zone map was posted. Looks like some big improvements, though there still are slow zones on track one by Loyola. http://www.transitchicago.com/assets/1/rail_slow_zone_maps/Slow_Zone_Map_-_201512_Dec.pdf
  15. Red & Purple Modernization Project (RPM)

Wow. Can't wait to ride again. Will they get up to 55 SB eventually?
  16. 3200-series - Rehabs

I think this is it, though they could possibly cut the roof boards just above the penetration points if they really wanted to remove them.
  17. 3200-series - Rehabs

Those maps are pretty useless and inconviently located
  18. CTA Rail Service Alerts

Oh wow, yeah definitely a collision. I just assumed it was a switch issue. I wonder if they'll be able to fix that car or just scrap.
  19. 5000-series - Updates

Interesting. I think the 5000s use different car maps too so these weren't just put in accidentally either
  20. 2600-series - Service Dates

Looks like 2659 is being used in a TV show http://imgur.com/gallery/bhECZ/new
  21. SKOKIE-SOUTH In South Side of Chicago Is Open For Business

Great photos! Why can't they just go straight from 63rd to the scrapper? Why is the stop in Skokie necessary
  22. Brown Line Core Capacity Project

Great idea, but my feeling is the Achilles heel of the entire el system is the loop structure. There are only so many trains that can go through towers 12 & 18, and if any delays or issues happen, they just ripple outwards. It would take tens of billions of dollars to fix that.
  23. Evanston Express EXpanded Summer 2015

Too bad. One wonders the wisdom of doing this when northwestern was ending their year.
  24. Red & Purple Modernization Project (RPM)

In theory, this should be done around the same time as the Ravenswood connector improvements which are supposed to fix all the slow zones between Belmont & the Merchandise Mart, so it could become a much better ride to Evanston later this year.
  25. CTA Rail Service Alerts

‚ÄčSeparately from the 5000 deliveries, hopefully nothing major happens where they would require work equipment that is normally kept at the Skokie Shops, or perhaps there is redundant equipment somewhere else in the system.
