  1. On sight operations

Signals or not, the operator must be alert for unusual activity on or near the right of way. This could be a drunk person staggering near the edge of the platform, workers and flagmen and being aware of cars trying to go around crossing gates, and other thing.
  2. Hiring Process

Email and phone at different stages. Check both. When you start training, you will get a CTA ID and can visit terminals and ask for hand-me-down uniforms. Good luck!
  3. Geometry car

For the past few nights I've tried to catch a glimpse of the geometry car CTA is using. I'm usually up in the mezzanine and run down as soon as I hear its unique sound. Working midnight shift has it's benefits. Anyone know if CTA owns it or are they contracting a service?
  4. 95th Red Line Station Rebuild

This station work is quite intense. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
  5. CTA Rail Service Alerts

http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_information/alert_detail.aspx?AlertId=45855 Length: Thursday, January 04, 2018 - 12:30 PM to TBD Impact Level: Service Suspended Full Description: Service on the Yellow Line has been temporarily suspended due to a collision with a vehicle near Skokie. Consider using the #97 Skokie bus for alternate service. Bus shuttles will be available to provide service through the affected area. We are working to restore service as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Allow extra travel time.
  6. Rail Inspectors and Flagmen

I've been looking up articles about CTA employees who were killed on duty from the 1980's through today. I noticed that quite a few are signal and track inspectors and often the trains that hit them were going at high speed. I also noticed that flagmen are not assigned to them as per policy. Has that ever been an issue of discussion regarding the need for safety?
  7. CTA Transit Times archives

Glad to share. I've been doing lots of personal research into the system as I was hired as a CSA a few weeks ago (pending a negative background check-smile). Thanks to the volunteers and staff that are archiving those publications. Would love to see some old rulebooks. I'm curious how processes have changed over the years.
  8. Some of you might find this interesting. I stumbled upon the Illinois Railway Museum's online archives of CTA employee publications from 1924-1991 http://irm-cta.org/EEMagazines.html
  9. Uploaded a picture I made of CNW #4404 from the mid-90's crossing Searle Parkway in Skokie to my profile. This was when the Skokie Sub cut off at Oakton street.

  10. This is an old video the person says happened around 2003. CTA said the blue line operator "overreacted." Does anyone know the specific date and what the outcome was for the operator?
  11. Sounds possible. They are perfect marketing pieces, however. It ties the CTA in with culture and business. Play them in the major stations with ticker for arrival times below.
  12. In preparation for an upcoming interview at CTA (as CSA), I've been doing my homework about the company and services. Although they are quite old now, I found the Connections show they made on Youtube to be very informational. The most recent episode aired in 2011. Does anyone know why they stopped producing these shows? Were they replaced with something else?
  13. Hiring Process

Interesting. So that could be up to almost a year with all the projects coming up?
  14. Hiring Process

Sounds like good news. Seems like they are very S L O W about responding to anything. I applied for Flagman in December 2016. Application is still "Active" on my CTA careers profile. No contact. That's almost 4 months now. Not sure if that's a good sign or not.
  15. Hiring Process

Thanks. Do you have any idea about how long until I might hear/read from them if they want to interview me or not? The posting was put up there about 2 weeks ago.
