What's left for #4400's TMC's

Did TMC 4704 get retired? I remember seeing it back in mid-May on the 151 Sheridan route. 4704 had a tape paper on the windshield indicating the route it was serving. It seems that CTA is retiring 20-30 TMCs a month. Just in a few months things can change so much.:(

#1759 was here yesterday afternoon on #51. That info was a couple days old. Most likely it was still being prepared for service like #1769. I'm still trying to figure out what happened to #1631? I still haven't seen it.

Yes 4704 did get retired. It was retired while still assigned to Kedzie garage as Kedzie was getting the last of its deliveries of NFs. From the sounds of it, it was retired shortly after your sighting of it on the 151 Sheridan.

Does anyone know what happened to #4875 (the last 4400 with Accessible)? I didnt see it yet on retire list. It is a 103rd bus, that bus was my former 74th favorite . At least 103rd has my favorite North Park one #4485, I wish that bus would've went back to NP.

Did you just see that one at NP today? Greenstreet says there all gone up there. I've seen #4589, #4591, #4592, #4543 and #4601 as of last week. I'll see if I can put up a list soon.

Went to 92nd/Ewing today, I spotted the front end of TMC #4433 sitting on top of #4714 and #5621, (two buses I drove out of FG). I also saw the top of some Flxs there but I couldnt get any numbers. There are quite a few of TMCs and Flxs there right now.

According to the list I saw, 4589 was at 77th as of 10/6, but if you saw it at North Park more recently, then I would trust an eyewitness viewing more than a report on a piece of paper.

Heres a pic I shot just yesterday. TMC #4714 Flx 5621 and it looks like #4433 or 4833 on top. You can also see bus parts such as the familiar blue seats in the pile, such a sad site. Ive driven both #4714 and #5621 out of FG and Ill tell you, you cant help to take it a bit personal. Id like to get in there again and look around some more.

The posts about about scrapping the TMCs brings to mind ads I saw about the RTS in Mass Transit magazine years ago. GM [the initial owners] touted the bus' stainless steel modular construction. Considering that, one might wish to strip the outer panels down to the frame and then melt it for recycling.

Quite right. What drew my attention was the ad size. The ad appears to be super-king size (from windows down, wheel well to wheel well) but seems to be in a black frame.

First, CTA bus frames (when they are used) are a silver color. Second, an ad that size (super king) never has a frame. Those are all direct application vinyl wraps. King sized ads can be in a frame or direct application depending on the bus.

Obviously, someone took a cut and paste from the art for the king-size ad and blew it up and pasted it on your photo.

On friday I spotted #4413 on either the #6 or #2. It has a full body wrap for Illinois property insurance on it. This is the wrap that shows the chicago skyline on it. ( Also on a few novas like #6794 and #6742) It was nice to see a wrap again on a TMC. The buildings really looked larger than life. The way these buses are dropping like flies, this might very well be the last wrap we see on these. Counting up to #1897 103rd could only have 28 left. With a total fleet count between 50 and 56.

I saw a TMC with a Jimmy John Sandwich Shop full body wrap back in late June running the 151 route (didn't get the number because it was dark and the streets were busy at the Taste of Chicago). I wonder if that TMC is still around or gone. :(

Well, I'll tell you this, I know for a fact that mostly Transit Agencies are depending more on using older buses for wraps and not using newer buses (well maybe except 1000-1200 which are about 2 years old). Otherwise they dont want to mess up the paint on newer buses for some reason I guess. But thats my opinion. But you are right about between 5800s and 1000s, they wouldn't have no choice to put the wraps on 1000s when 5800s are retiring more soon.
