Isn't Lunt considered a side street?Contrary to popular belief, CTA does indeed plow and salt a few streets to this day. They have two large plow/salters, 334 and 335, one at Forest Glen and one at 103rd. Two years ago, I was running 34-S Michigan during a rather heavy snow and was surprised the streets the bus uses in the Gardens were plowed. Until I saw 335 coming down 131st plowing and salting. Not sure where else they do this, as streets like Berwyn between Broadway and Sheridan were basically impassable for three days after the last storm, but FG's big salter wasn't home, so it was out doing something. That would seem to explain why CTA uses Lunt as a detour of the 155 west of Western when they could very easily use Pratt as they have done to the east of Western. Obviously CTA hasn't found a way around that obstacle. So it seems it's more to it than simply Pratt used to be a narrow street especially when speaking of such a small stretch that it was a narrow street.The population in that area has been there a long, long time, and their alderman was Bernie Stone for almost as long. Bernie had some weird ideas. Remember the "spite fence" down the middle of Howard St? Anyway, Bernie's constituents had this terrible fear that buses on Pratt would be noisy, dirty, break up the street, and bring in "undesirables" (Sounds like Yates between 75th and 87th, doesn't it?). For decades the city and the Sanitary District wanted to put in a bridge across the Channel at Pratt, but Bernie said "no" and that was that. Let's face it - he had lots of pull. They would probably just as soon get rid of the buses on California and Touhy also, and just keep their little "Toonerville Trolley", but that isn't going to happen.
