Are the marker light colors for each route documented anywhere ?

Could they become obsolete with colored LED background signs ?

For documentation on marker lights, go to Chicago-l.org, Routes and Operations, Marker Lights (near the bottom).

The color LED signs shouldn't make any difference compared to the color roll signs. However, you do raise the intriguing possibility that the gps used to run Mr. CTA and the internal signs could communicate with the switch system, sort of like Identra. Not that I am saying that it does.

Now that more 5000s going to the Red Line, that means some of the 2600s will transfer to the Blue Line. All the 2200s are ready to retired by next month. As far as 2400s and some early 2600s goes, they ready for retirement start early 2013.

So far there have been no transfers to the blue line. (the latest transfer was between Red and Green) With the blue line at 76 #2200's, if you factor in the 16 cars the line has extra since the spring. (and there going to need decrowding cars still) the smallest they could shrink that to would be 60. If you factor in the CTA is only going to receive 20 more #5000's before the end of the year. (they currently have 134) The most the blue line could receive by year's end from Red line is 20 cars. Maybe if the decrowding trains were not going to be in service, the #2200's would retire sooner, but that's not happening. I still see #2200's in 2013. The #2200's retiring in 2012 is a mathematic impossibility.

The Green Line has just receive some more 5000s today. I spotted #5137-38 and #5151-52 heading south to Ashland/63rd. On the Red Line at Howard terminal, I've seen few 5000s car numbers #5105-06 and #5085-86 there in the Howard yard. I also ride the Yellow Line to Skokie terminal and I've seen more 5000s at the Skokie Shops.

#5001-02 and #5051-52 are new to the colorized LED signs list, (on my #5000's in service thread) only 26 remain to be done. As far as the Red line those aren't new, those are the cars that they started #5000's with on that line. As far as the #5000's at Skokie, it was reported on here (last page) #5167-68 have been delivered, so it's a safe bet cars that high are located there, which would be around 12 more cars, although they might be missing a set or two.

Yes, I've seen #5001-02 and #5051-52 have colorized signs on the Green Line. I also think my guess would be around 12 or more cars there at Skokie.

It looks like there are now three 8-car train sets of 5000-series cars on the Red Line. They are all in the Howard yard this morning.

That's weird, the 2013 budget says there going to complete the assignments of #5000's on the Green line by the end of the year. That would mean they would need 48 cars. Maybe there was a change of plans.

Looks like there would still be a few Budd 2200s active in January or through the Winter 2013.

#5049-50 and #5065-66 are new to the colorized signs this week. (22 left) I also noticed more amber colorized LED cars showing up on the Green line like #5013-14, #5075-76, and #5113-14. It's slowly becoming, what's left of the amber LED cars are on the Green line.

I also seen #5019-20 has amber LED signs on the Pink Line as well.

Yeah, I've seen them have colorized LED signs. Also, I spotted #5109-10 on the Pink Line last weekend.

#5109-10's been around awhile with the new signs. It should be #5013-16, #5021-22, #5043-46, #5053-54, #5063-64, #5075-76, #5113-14 that still need to be done. All those are on the Green line now except, #5021-22, #5043-44. Looks like they'll get done with this in a few weeks (before xmas)

No, there just swapping trains like the Green and Pink. One consist on the Red line has #5097-98, #5101-02, #5123-24 and #5127-28. The other one which was in Howard yard has #5047-48, #5063-64, #5105-06 and what looked like #5069-70. All those are new to the line except #5105-06. I don't know if the other cars have swapped back yet, so I don't know if the Red line has 4 trains of #5000's unless if one is in 98th yard that I'm not seeing. (I could only spot 1 train in service) I guess we'll see if the other cars show up on the Green or Pink line.
