The Zoom meeting will be on Tuesday February 15 and the meeting at Chicago Union Station will be on Friday February 18. Registration information for the Zoom meeting is below. 7:30 pm Tuesday, February 15, 2022 Zoom meeting Railroads of the Brooklyn Waterfront by David A. Wilson David Wilson will show historic photographs of industrial sites along the Brooklyn waterfront of how railroad freight was handled, which included a water transfer. He'll also show us the modern waterfront, which has been transformed into housing and retail and a pleasant pedestrian environment, with a bit of flavor of the industrial past. David will also show us railroads of Long Island. You are invited to a Zoom meeting. Railroad & Shortlines Club of Chicago meets at Chicago Union Station on the third Friday of the month except in July and August. 7:30 pm Friday, February 18, 2022 Chicago Union Station Room 107A 500 W Jackson Blvd (please enter between Clinton and Canal) Chicago, Illinois Freight on the Narrow Gauge of Denver & Rio Grande Western by Russell Sharp The Denver & Rio Grande was one of the first narrow gauge railroads in the United States, and among its very last. At its peak, it operated 1861 miles of narrow gauge trackage in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, but by the mid 1960s, it was down to less than 300 miles. Photographer Russell Sharp explored the end of narrow gauge common carrier freight operation 1967 and 1968, steam powered till the very end. We'll see the Alamosa to Durango route, with branches to Silverton and Farmington. The eastern end of the route, Alamosa to Antonito, was dual gauge, and the yard at Alamosa was dual gauge.
