SUGAR GROVE -- Whether by train or car, Sugar Grove is looking for better ways to get around.

The village unveiled its updated transportation wish list this week, comprised of 14 multimillion-dollar projects ranging from reconstructing Route 47 to building Metra stations in the village.

"Don't worry, we're not going to take these on overnight," Village President Sean Michels said.

Instead, the village will look to implement them as funding falls into place. Last year's wish list, for example, featured the Municipal Drive extension project, which is now in the construction stages.

One chance may be around the corner, as Metra announced a call for new projects starting June 24. The village's $185 million vision for Metra service includes 10 miles of new train tracks and stations at Gordon Road, Municipal Drive and Dugan Road.

A project new to this year's list is the Orchard Gateway, a road that would span from Route 47 east to Orchard Road. Sugar Grove officials have spoken to North Aurora and Aurora about the project, Community Development Director Richard Young said, and both towns have expressed interest in taking it on.

As board members discussed their transit priorities, several requested that the village consider building bike paths into new construction projects.

"With gas costs rising... whenever roads are built, we're going to have to start thinking about that," Trustee Mari Johnson said.

The village also heard from Kane County Board member Bill Wyatt, who brought yet another option for transit funding to the table. SLICE, a program funded by this year's sales tax increase, will offer about $13 million annually to worthy transit projects around the county starting later this year.

The above article appeared in the local paper. Has anyone heard any information regarding which line these stations would be part of?

BNSF, but since Denny Hastert isn't there to provide the big federal bucks to extend train service 10 miles to nowhere, don't count on anything like this happening real soon. As the article says, it is a "wish list" by people who aren't paying for it.
