Indianapolis transit system (IndyGo)

Recommended Posts

I have a meeting in Indianapolis in the summer and have been looking at what they have.

Current Fleet consists of:-

2001-2025 Gillig Low Floor 30' new 2000

2026-2050 Gillig Low Floor 35' new 2000

2051-2075 Gillig Low Floor 40' new 2000

2301-2324 Gillig Low Floor 40' new 2003

2401H-2403H Gillig Low Floor hybrid 40' new 2004

2701-2710 Gillig Low Floor 40' new 2007

1001-1011 Gillig BRT 2010

H1011-H1022 Gillig BRT HEV 2010

H1301-H1304 Gillig BRT HEV 2013

remaining older high floor buses from

9702-9730 Gillig Phantom 1997

9801-9810 Gillig Phantom 1998

are being replaced by second hand buses from Central Ohio TA acquired last year

9901-9910 Nova LFS 1999 (from COTA 9901~9928)

eleven New Flyer D40LF 2001 - one of which one is numbered 0133 (from COTA 2100~2162)

They are also getting 17 used articulated buses (new 2000-2003) this summer from Complete Coach Works. A drawing of one in the Indygo livery implies they are New Flyer D60LF.

For the size of the city Indygo has a relatively small fleet (~170 vehicles) with service hours and frequencies you would expect for much smaller towns. Very few routes operate after 9pm at night, their two highest frequency routes (8, 50) operate every 15 minutes with daytime frequency on most routes every 30 or 60 minutes.

There are 33 routes operating Monday to Friday, 28 on Saturday and 19 on Sundays

Looks like a more intersting bus fleet than I first thought; I had figured it would be almost exclsuively Gilligs. That should make for some interesting photo ops when I visit.

I know that the Lynx bus system in Orlando, Fla. bought three used D60HF artics which were ex-Minneapolis Metro Transit. Wonder if the IndyGo buses are going to be ex-Metro Transit units as well.
