andrethebusman
This final installment includes all buses ordered by CSL. It should be noted that 100% of CSL's fleet made it to CTA, though a huge number of the prewar buses were in fact already dead and were burned in huge bonfires in early 1949 at South Shops (shown on this list as "scr"). One bus, White 798 3475, was received in burned condition, but CTA managed to make something of it, converting it to BS-1, which was in reality a driveable chassis without a body on it, with all air and hydraulic lines labeled so that new-hire mechanics could see where everything went. The last pre-war buses in passenger service were the ACF's in 2100's and 2200's that were converted to salt spreader/plows in 1954-55. The very last "real" CSL bus was 6524 which lasted to 1967.A listing of work bus dispositions will follow. Some of the 2300's were sold to West Towns Bus Co, as noted. Some of the 6800's went to Freeport Bus Co, but which ones is not noted in CTA records.ctarets4.txt
