The Only Space With 6 Tracks On The CTA (Photos)

The only place where the "L" had six tracks was the junction at Armitage, shown in this CTA photo. A NB subway train approching on track "A" on the incline. A SB Ravenswood moves away on track 1 while a NB Ravenswood comes north on track 4. The original high post signals protect the junction, controlled from the tower built for the subway tracks. The track names were corresponding A and B in the State St. and C and D in the Dearborn- Milwaukee even though the two subways were entirely separate.

Unlike the south incline, the north incline is sand supported by concrete walls. The "L" was supported above the incline. The subway was carried into Clybourn Ave. by open trench tunneling.

SB, at Armitage, we catch a training class on the catwalk. This location is always used by classes. Note that the track is changed completely.

I bet you that never see this....here is where the structure closes over the incline. Still a alley goes up the side. Note outside track is empty.
