2017 Metra Budget

As predicted by the media, the budget is posted here:

Stuff that may be significant:

• No matter how far  you ride, the single ride goes up 25 cents and (as reported) the monthly goes up $11.75. Although they say they have a fare zone study going, I wonder if this is going to go over with the closer in riders, who get a 7% increase on single fares, 12.3% on monthlies.
• While the 23 cars on the VRE option are budgeted, Metra says that the big procurement depends on a state bond program. For some reason, I don't think "Gov. Quinn's Illinois Jobs Now" program is currently a state priority.
• There is a budget for "replacing bridges on the UPR-North."

I forgot: Increased surveillance on conductors to make sure they check fares.

Also, in other news, Norm Carlson replaces Martin Oberman as chairman.

Note all the references to "the railroad's outdated accounting system." Still the finest commuter railroad of the 19th Century.
