Well a couple of months ago, some driver was driving with the front door open what seemed to be the 95 route. I don't think it there was any passengers on board at the time, andI don't think he should have been doing it. Does anybody know what CTA's policy on that is? The bus was a Flxible, as if that matters anyhow.~

Not sure what CTA's current policy is, but it used to be a common thing to see growing up back in the 80s, especially among the fishbowls and the old Flxible 3700s. By then, the fishbowls didn't have functioning air conditioners so it was common to see drivers drive with the front doors open on warm spring and summer days to let a breeze flow through the bus. They always closed them though when a passenger approached the front door when he saw his stop coming up. I remember seeing it done a few times on the MAN artics that occasionally ran on the 94 when that route was assigned to Archer during the time that Kedzie was closed and being rebuilt between 1979 and 1984. For some odd reason on those I have a memory of only one front door being open instead of both while the bus was moving. It wasn't seen done as much when the Americanas started arriving. I have only one memory of an Americana moving with the front doors open and that was very early on during their delivery time. Soon after it wasn't seen done at all when the Americanas became commonplace on Chicago streets. It probably explained why the fishbowls got fitted with two-panel windows like those on the old Flxibles in place of their original single-panel ones during this same time.

In my opinion, that shouldn't have been done. Its a hazard (in my opinion) and plain stupid.
