Downtown Washington Reroute Update

I was looking at the CTA customer alerts and saw that routes 20, X20 and 56 will be returning to Washington starting Tuesday. All other routes that were rerouted onto Monroe will remain on Monroe for the time being with route 14 having a route adjustment. Starting Tuesday, it will operate on Clinton from Washington to Monroe instead of on S. Wacker Drive. Just wanted to share that detail with everyone.

Six bus routes continue to be rerouted off of Washington Street. These routes include the #14 Jeffery Express, #60 Blue Island/26th, #124 Navy Pier, #127 Madison/Roosevelt Circulator (service scheduled to be eliminated on June 15), #129 West Loop/South Loop and the #157 Streeterville.

As you can see from the reference to the 127, it appears the upcoming June revisions to some of the bus routes in the Westside Corridor Study will be around June 15 (June 14 for any buses that operate weekends).

Yeah thanks for the info. When I first seen this CTA press release last Thursday Night, it seemed to me that the construction of the new CBS 2 Broadcast Center at Block 37 is almost coming to a close. They will still periodically re-route Madison & Milwaukee buses when construction crews get heavy. That could roughly be during the late-evening through early morning or at other non-peak times. I'm hoping when the CBS 2's new home get's completely finish, all the routes can run back on Washington Blvd.

As for the 127, I only rode it twice, right around the first weeks when the new 127 started. After those two years, I wasn't shocked that the route would be weak as the route continued on. Friday, June 13 will be the last day. But luckily it will be more Roosevelt Buses on the street and hopefully all the buses will go from end to end instead of some trips going between Ogden & Indiana.

I went back and checked the old press release from March telling about the bus improvements, and it said that the 12 is supposed to be getting a 6-10 minute interval during rush periods, a 10 minute nonpeak weekday interval and a 12 minute weekend interval. Hopefully that will help ease the pressure off the westbound buses that take forever to load at the Red and Green/Orange Line stations, and often leave standing room only, or packed almost beyond capacity if it's the weekday especially rush hour. As it stands now, the 12 is late from time to time and is packed to the gills a lot of the times during rush hour while the 127 comes more often than seems to be needed and is empty a lot of the times.
