74th New Flyers

All I have to say about this is that I am personally not thrilled that 74th is getting the New Flyers. What they should've done was to continue the deliveries at either North Park, 77th & 103rd. I was really hoping the Glen to get it. I was really happy several months ago when they got rid of all the TMCs at 74th and I really hoped that it would stay as an all-6000s bus garage.

To sort this all away from the "Next Garage..." thread.

What is being missed here is that, probably, 74th was not going to get any New Flyers at this time. My guess is that it, either, they had an equipment shortage there, or, more likely, enough of the stuff there was bad enough that it would not last long enough to get to the end of the deliveries. Hence, instead of moving more old bad stuff there again, allot a small amount of new stuff, then go back to the original plan to retire the old stuff at North Park and 103.

Kedzie might actually have that title with 225 NFs (800-809, 900-909, 1122-1225, 1630-1730). I think Chicago has a few less. If I'm not mistaken their roster is 1000-1121, 1330-1430?

Maybe we can call this thread "BUS CHESS."

Add in how many NABIs at Kedzie? Reports are that the total there of all buses is 290. Then some DE60LFs are supposed to be assigned to Halsted. With a listed capacity of 250 (and an articulated supposedly counting as two), something has to give. Is the Garfield Park neighborhood so empty that buses can be safely parked on vacant lots? Hence, something has to move out, and all that could are either D40LFs or NABIs.

Similar idea regarding the Jeffery BRT. The NABIs are mostly used for 14. Since that is going BRT and supposed to get hybrids, where do most of the NABIs go? 103 doesn't need 50 to serve 26 and possibly some runs out of the 95th/Dan Ryan terminal.

Can go in a similar direction for Chicago Garage (66 getting BRT treatment), although the space crunch there doesn't seem as acute as at Kedzie, once 3 track ends.

Most of the above speculation involves believing press reports (which is risky business), but if the goal was to minimize moves, it isn't working.

In any event, if the assumption is to clear out the oldies at 103 and NP next, there are only 70 undelivered D40LFs to haggle over. But some garages may be getting them second hand, based on the above thoughts.
