It's been finalized, Metro in Rock Island has chose New Flyer of America to build 8 New Flyer C40LF buses to be delivered by the end of the year. Metro piggybacked with MARTA of Atlanta Ga.

Another 8 buses are expected sometime in 2010 as well. The C40LF's will replace the aging 1991 Orion 01.508's and 4 1996 New Flyer D40LF's in need of replacement. I will have pictures as soon as they are available.

Was any reason publicized why RI went for CNG buses (given that the transit authorities here still like diesel or hybrid)?

We have 25 CNG buses in the fleet (Eldorado National CheesyRiders), the General Manager wants to use CNGT because its cheaper than diesel and clean burning. Metro also introduced a new website gogreenmetro.com. Basically he wants an all CNG bus fleet.

The El Dorado Axess was a replacement bus they sold to Rock Island to replace a bus that was destroyed in 2007.

Also, does anyone know who else bid on the Rock Island contract?

Eldorado National for CNG axess buses.
