west towns
on the Milwaukee or NC with the older budd cars or ex UP cars, what is the shape noise coming from the trucks on tight curves esp outside of union station and near Western? Has anyone heard this before on other lines, with other cars?

What most don't realize is that the trucks are not actually fastened to the car body itself, but that they are "balanced". Part of the process is that the top of the truck assembly is greased. As the grease wears out it causes the truck to rub underneath the car body, which I am assuming is the loud annoying sound you are hearing on the curves. Some are worse than others, but all cars experience this. It is more of a nusance than an actual problem.
Railwaymodeler
A nusance? I actually like that sound, and it is best heard on the old Budd or smoothside P-S coaches. The newer cars don't have that sound as much.
