Zol87
Hey Everyone, The Village of Skokie will begin construction on the Oakton Yellow Line Station This Monday!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakton_%28CTA%29 Here is the info NW corner of Searle Parkway Skokie Boulevard (Cicero Avenue) just north of Oakton Street. June 21st, 2010 10:30am http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Skokie+Blvd+%26+Searle+Pkwy+Skokie+IL+60076/ Here is a press release from the Village of Skokie. http://www.egovlink.com/public_documents300/skokie/published_documents/News/2010/Week%20of%20June%2014/June%2021%20CTA%20Groundbreaking%20Ceremony.pdf I'm surprised the CTA has not posted anything yet on their web page. http://www.transitchicago.com/Yelloweis/documents.aspx This is the first brand new CTA Station in a long time. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/56/Oakton_Street_Swift_Station_Rendering.jpg
trainman8119
And thus begins the end of the "Skokie Swift". With stations being added, the line will be no longer "swift" and will fall into the category of the "Evanston Express", which of course is everything but these days. Maybe they can make the cars smaller with less seats. That way with the extra stops, they can make as many people as uncomfortable as they can for as long as they can. Ho Hum !! Busjack
And thus begins the end of the "Skokie Swift".... I'm not so sure. Downtown Skokie could use the boost of a station. I'm also not convinced that Dodge wouldn't be a good idea.
railfan4072
The Village of Skokie will begin construction on the Oakton Yellow Line Station This Monday!! http://en.wikipedia....akton_%28CTA%29 As I understand it, this is a groundbreaking ceremony that has been on the Skokie Village calendar for several months - before Skokie realized that all of the contracts needed for construction would not be in place by this date. Just over half of the contracts for the contractors need for this project have been approved by the Village. In fact, eight of the contracts were scheduled to be rebid last week. (Skokie Review, 6-11-10) As such, this appears to be a ceremonial groundbreaking, not a true beginning of construction, despite what the Skokie press release indicates. I'm surprised the CTA has not posted anything yet on their web page. http://www.transitch.../documents.aspx I'd be surprised if the CTA had posted anything especially since construction plans and details are, as yet, non-existent. And certainly, I wouldn't expect them to jump the gun on the Skokie Village event and post something before the Skokie mayor gets his time in the media spotlight.
