Busjack
As of Monday local 241 has been in recievership by the international union, the officers have been relieved of their duties, due to financial problems. Article can be found in the late breaking editiion of the Tribune on line. The link is here. Interesting is that the union is in the hole for arbitration expenses. Jefferson seems full of excuses, but at least the loss of 1000 members certainly should have been foreseeable.* Bad investments also don't seem to excuse the failure to make the current contribution to the union employee pension fund, unless the amount of the current contribution is tied to past underfunding. Of course, the irony is that Jefferson's folks have been complaining about the CTA's failure to make contributions to its pension fund, and those complaints seem to continue even after the 2008 issuance of pension bonds. Since the article points out that contract negotiations are coming up, and certainly another budget cut is, I wonder if we will see Jefferson on the tube as much as in early 2010. ________ *I thought, though, that the rapid transit workers belonged to Local 308.
