chicagopcclcar
There is this photo by Joe Testagrose from 1969 showing a CTA2200 in tests showing a trolley third rail mechanism needed under a covering. Noted that Chicago could have changed "L"/subway in 1939 by using the larger dimensions planned for the Initial Subway System (State, Dearborn-Milwaukee) ....but they chose to continue with the same 8'-8" base floor. Also continued was the third rail dimension..... and the gravity shoe and sleet scapers. The trolley block mechanism was used in almost all car series.....4000, 5000, 6000-6200, 6511, 1-50, 2000, 2400, 2600, 3200, 5000(2009), 7000(planned). The only exceptions are the two series...6201 and 2200 where the truck designs incorporated a paddle shoe and not the gravity shoe.
andrethebusman
Interesting shot at SEPTA's Fern Rock Yard. Did 2201-2202 ever make it out on Broad St, or were they just run around the yard?
