Wayside energy storage system

CTA has a Request for Information about a wayside energy storage system for the rapid transit system. While the solicitation basically requests technical expertise, the problem is defined as that a WESS would allow storage of the braking energy until another rail car accelerates, as well as reduce stress on the power system during surges in demand. The system would also determine whether it would pay to convert the DC to AC and sell it back to the utility.

It also says that SEPTA uses it. This explains that project.
