Danielsmusic
I've been taking the 2 down to Hyde Park almost everyday to visit my girlfriend, and it's starting to seem like certain runs are assigned certain buses. Will the CTA intentionally send an articulated on a 5:30 run instead of a 3:30 run because the 5:30 run will be more crowded? Or is it just that buses are randomly assigned? Also, I know the 2 comes out of103rd, but I've never seen any 5300s on the run. Does the CTA intentionally give certain buses not to certain routes, but to certain runs? I don't see how that answers my question. I asked if, during the PM rush, certain buses go on certain runs on the same route. Like, before PM rush around 3:30-ish, if someone's going to take the bus from 103rd to Navy Pier for the Hyde Park Express, and there are many free artics at the garage, will CTA still give the driver a 40-footer? This route runs both singles and artics.

I think if you look at the info underneath his screen name, you'll see that he just joined the forum earlier this month. So I don't think he would have seen Bus Repairman's answer from 18 months ago. That doesn't really help him.
Busjack
Unless you have some information that 103rd has changed its allocation habits, it doesn't make any difference. Unless you get Bus Repairman or someone with comparable access to that barn back here, there probably isn't anything more specific anyone here can say. The relevant point was that a run (not necessarily a route) was either assigned an articulated or short bus, and whatever bus was at the front of the line probably went next. Others have commented that a 30 foot bus might go out on an articulated route, if that is all that is left in operable condition, since that was supposedly better than missing the run. Remember, also, that it was agreed in the New Buses and Old Attitudes topic that the assignments, other than the factors mentioned by Bus Repairman, were random. My only point was I think he was hoping for someone to clearly direct him to a link for the info you were referring to. I know your words 'answered this 18 months ago' was the link, but being new he may not have realized that. And no this is not to start an argument or anything. Just pointing out that I don't think he realized that you were giving him the link to Bus Repairman's answer.
