47th and Lake Park Terminal

Over the past couple of days I have noticed a rash of new activity at this terminal. Usually it is routes 28 and 47 that occupy here. Occasionally there might be a U of C bus, but usually it would be 28 or 47. However, since the garage switch, it seems as though this has been a staging point for the U of C routes. Earlier in the week (Monday or Tuesday), going by at around 3:15 pm, there were at least 4 Optimas in the terminal. My first though was that they were running on the 47, with all the talk of there being sightings on Route 62...however, there have been no route numbers dispayed to the rear (which often is all I can see from above going by at 65 MPH). Going by on the second trip around 5:45 pm, it is mostly 28's in the terminal. Later in the week, the number of Optimas in the terminal has dropped to 1 or 2 on the first trip, not the 3 or 4 of earlier in the week and at most 1, if any, on the second trip.

The hottest bit of info here is that yesterday there were two 6200's parked in the Route 47 area (north side of the terminal next to the shelter) going by at 3:15 pm and 1 parked there at 5:45 pm. All seen were lower numbers, in the 62 teen range. I couldn't think of any 74th street routes that use that terminal, so I can only conclude that perhaps these might have been moved to Archer to relieve some of the bus shortage there. If that is the case, another example of reacting instead of acting...another extra move made regarding moving stuff around. If this is the case, then the geniuses should have just swapped 6000s and Novas between Archer and Forest Glen, until the situation was under control at Archer. I guess there just must be a procedure at CTA that requires things to be done in three steps, even though most could be done in two or even one.

Also, for 5300 fans, Hyde Park is a haven for 5400s and even a couple of 5300's and low 5600's, mostly on the 28 and some on x28. To the north, it seems as though there are 1 or 2 in the terminal on Pulaski and Peterson when I go by around 1:45 pm. The pattern seems to be Flyers one day, Flxibles the next. Here it is mostly 5500's and occasional high 5600's.

Actually Trainman, #47 is a 74th garage route now as of last Sunday with the new spring pick moves. It's one of the routes Archer gave to 74th (the others were 51, 52A and 53A/53AL) after it got 21, 50 and 60 from Kedzie. So those low 6200s you saw still belong to 74th for now. No unnecessary movement on this occasion.

It is certainly a change from the loop being almost abandoned a couple of years ago, except for 51s and the occasional Jeffrey short turn. In addition to jujuan's observation, it appears that 103 can't shake the 5300s.

I was hoping that it was something like that. I tried going back through the posts before I posted, but got impatient and just let the observation go. Thanks for clearing that up.
