CHI74
I would like your opinion on the NABI 45C-LFW 7800 series COMPO BUS was this bus a good idea or was it a bad idea . I would like you thoughts on this bus . Thank you for your time.
Busjack
The ideas that it was lighter, held more passengers, had a distinctive paint job, and potentially would be used to distinguish the X49 were good. However, it apparently had the problems that transit authorities were specifying standard engines and other components (thus making them heavier than thought), they were being offered by a company with which CTA was having problems with the 7500s, and a company in financial trouble (the old NABI based in Hungary), which apparently couldn't deliver them for the price. As previously mentioned, I wonder if Los Angeles is having any success with its current procurement based on a composite bus specification. As to whether the buses themselves were any good, one would have to ask LA or Phoenix.

I like the concept of a 45 foot transit bus as I feel it can seat and carry nearly as many passengers as a 40 foot standard height transit bus. What I don't know is how a composite structure bus would survive 12 years of CTA ownership and operation. I wish we could have found out. Esthetically, I would have preferred a flat side otherwise I thought the bus looked OK. Gene King [and you are welcome]
