Which is the CORRECT route number?

I noticed last week that the run number that was electronically displayed on the front of the bus (that is, that you can see through the windshield) didn't match the one that was displayed on the screen inside the bus...

Just wondering....if there's a contradiction, which one is technically the correct one?? The inside one?? The screen you can see from the outside??? And they weren't close, either -- one said something like 991, the other said 228...

Apparently it was the run number not the route number.

Although if a driver has to log into the Clever Device, which supposedly sets both, I don't know why they wouldn't match.

I also don't know why it would be of significance to the rider, unless one was going to report the driver.

Well, yeah, that's what I was thinking. Mind you, I wasn't actually going to report the driver, but I was thinking it'd be nice to know which one was right if I had to....or heck, I guess one could always provide BOTH with a disclaimer...
They'd probably make you get the badge number off the uniform sleeve, anyway.

Was the bus you were on close to its home garage? The reason I ask is because I have days where I need to report for work at 4am or 5am. In those situations, I'm getting one of the first EB 12 Roosevelt runs pulling out from the garage. There have been a couple of times when the bus is still sporting a 'KEDZIE GARAGE' destination sign with the run box showing the last run the bus was previously on before being used as a 12 for that day. For example one had K1xx, a 126 run number, when it came down Kedzie to Roosevelt. By the time it got to my stop it had the correct K6xx run number which flashed on the stop announcement readout after the operator logged into the Clever Device unit. Perhaps this was a similar situation. As for why a rider would want the run number, there are those like me who like to know not just to report bad service but to also commend good service. I use it quite a lot to comment on Kedzie operators (I live in the middle of Kedzie territory) who I come across quite a lot who go above and beyond to give good service. As we all know working with the public these days is not easy, especially when it comes to those riders who are rude, obnoxious, or just plain think the world revolves around them. So I like to give props to the operators I see who don't let it get to them and still manage to give good service, even to those who might deserve it.

Since he said that the run box on the windshield didn't match the inside announcement ("you are on Run K126"), would there be any inside announcement and corresponding display if the driver hadn't logged in (not to mention one that didn't match the run box)?

I understand the concept of changing the run box when the driver goes "in service," going back to when I rode the 1 Drexel Hyde Park, and it would change drivers at Drexel Square for street relief. However, I thought that under the present system, the new driver would log in.

Again, can our drivers clarify this?*

*And thanks to OSUITS for explaining why the signs can't be wirelessly updated, in a practical sense.

Run box could be broke. Did u think about that? It is a flyer after all.

The driver could of logged into the clever device properly and then opened the sign hatch to put a different run number in on the Luminator key pad. This is possible to do.

OR, like cta5555 said, the run box could of been broken or it could of been vice versa. The Clever Device could of been frozen with the previous run number, and the operator used the ODK for the correct run number.
