Busjack
I just received Moving Forward, which states that Pace is applying for TIGGER grants to purchase and test 10 hybrid paratransits and 10 hybrid 30 footers.... Tracing the link on the front page to CTA wins $1.5M grant for cleaner buses, it appears from the FTA announcement that this was a TIGGER grant. It also appears that Pace got some hybrid paratransits, but through a grant to the state, not on its application, above. Apparently Crain's missed that, or considers Arlington Heights to be a downstate community. Since the Pace application seems to have been denied, so much for the 30 foot hybrid transit buses for Capt. Kirk. On the CTA side, the official FTA announcement indicates that the electric plug project is for North Park. Probably to plug in the hybrids. Busjack
TIGER with one R. Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery. Nope. According to the Press Release: "Transit Investments for Greenhouse Gas and Energy Reduction (TIGGER) grant program" It is one R but 2 Gs. BusHunter
It should be interesting to see these North Park stalls in the winter in the ice and snow. With stalls for 80 hybrid buses, (currently there are 86 there) it leaves 6 buses out in the cold unless there's going to be a mini swap in the future. Busjack
Since the Pace application seems to have been denied, so much for the 30 foot hybrid transit buses for Capt. Kirk. Apparently not. According to the Pace Green page, in addition to the 10 hybrid paratransits, which was part of a TIGGER grant to the State, they also say: "Pace ... will soon order two hybrid fixed route buses to be used in Highland Park." So, I guess they found a way to placate the locals, or vice versa.
