CTA Union Concessions ?

On Sunday at around 3:30pm on AM 1690 Jefferson was on the radio for about 20 minutes. Sounds like concessions wont happen for 241 & 308. Both locals withdrew their offers. It would only have saved 200 jobs. Jefferson stated that he went to all the locations and has been getting input from the members and they have all let him know they do not want to open the contract for anything. They asked why he is avoiding CTA's calls to meet and he said he will meet with them to discuss anything they want EXCEPT CONCESSIONS. If they are calling to meet for concessions he will not do it. They asked him if the members will be taking a vote to open the contract and he said NO. He already knows what the members want so a vote would be a waste of time. The fix needs to come from somewhere else, not the members by giving concessions.

The 701 workers that were let go last Friday after taking concessions were called back to work Monday. They must have done that for some "legal" reason. Kinda like when we take a different job at CTA, they make you resign from your old job and "hire you" back on the new job.

It sounds like they wanted to knock them down back to zero seniority, if the rule, as indicated by the MTA Act, is from last hire. One would have thought that they could have just demoted their pay grade, but maybe the bumping rights mess mentioned by the arbitrator had something to do with it.
