  1. 1. What do you think will be the outcome come 2/7/2010 for the CTA?

    • Like every other year....the boy who cried wolf...some elected official will save the day on the white horse!

The real wild card is #1. I find it hard to fathom that Quinn, having found the money to freeze fares, won't try to find the money to avert service cuts; otherwise the unions and certain riders would be teed off just about election time.

However, Quinn has never been a model of resoluteness, and no one has really explained the source of the first $166 million (in that what is supposed to pay back the principal on those bonds) nor where about the $101 million needed to prevent CTA and Pace service reductions in 2010 (and probably another similar amount for 2011) would come from (to end a sentence with a preposition). Also, there probably still is the residual question whether some routes deserve the axe because they don't meet service standards.

In the absence of magic money, the "not only layoffs..." option seems more likely.
