103rd garage

Recommended Posts

In the past few weeks, it seems that the 1400,1500,1800 series NF'S assinged to 103rd are getting slow. from my asuption from riding with my cousin at chicago garage. the 1900 and 2000 series are faster, how com 103rd wont get these series expect for loners.

From what I've read we used to have them in this area. don't know exactly why for the switch but #1930-1970 are at 77th (traded with North Park around the time of the Febuary 7th pick for capacity since they lost articulateds) , 1900-1929 are at North Park (must be a capacity thing also) and some of the 2000's that we at 103rd are now at Chicago. Maybe Chicago has them for routes like the 20, 66, 72 and other heavy routes. As far as speed I haven't noticed I slow down as many of those NF are showing up on Express routes that I ride and they aren't that slow.

To be specific, #1930-1963, plus #1965-1977 odds are at 77th. #1964-1976 evens plus #1978, 1979 and 1980 are still at NP. Also, among the lower end of the 1900s range, #1900-1924 evens plus #1926-1929 are at Chicago Garage, while #1901-1925 odds are at NP. All buses numbered #1981 and higher are now at Chicago.

Speaking of lower-numbered buses that were at one point based at 103rd, buses #1432-1630 evens were originally at 103rd. Of those, #1480-1528 evens plus #1598, #1600, #1602 and #1604 are still at 103rd. #1530-1584 evens are now at 74th; #1432-1478 and #1586-1594 evens are now at Chicago; #1596 and #1606-1630 evens are now at Kedzie. In return, 103rd now has the remainder of the #1480-1529 block (this means all buses numbered from 1480 to 1529) plus #1599 and #1605-1613 odds. Thus, of all buses numbered #1430-1630, the following are their current garage assignments:

#1430-1479, #1586-1595: Chicago

#1480-1529, #1598, #1599, #1600, #1602, #1604, #1605-1613 odds: 103rd

#1530-1585: 74th

#1596, #1597, #1601, #1603, #1606-1612 evens, #1614-1630: Kedzie

As for other NF's that were originally based at 103rd, IIRC buses #1762-1908 evens were originally at that garage. But at that point the even-numbered buses starting around bus #1910 and continuing to around 1926 were sent to 77th instead of 103rd upon delivery. Then, 77th began receiving the odd-numbered buses from the upper 1920s to the 1990s (most of the even-numbered buses in that range went to NP, but a few were sent to Chicago instead). The current assignments of the buses numbered from #1760 to #1910 are as follows:

#1760-1791, #1793, #1795, #1797, #1850-1855, #1857-1909 odds: North Park

#1792, #1794, #1796, #1798-1849: 103rd

#1856-1910 evens: Chicago

This once again proves my theory that the 1900's were sent to garages that have heavy routes but have no artics looking at 1981-higher at Chicago and 1930-1963 plus the odds being at 77th. Their seating arrangement would allow for more people in the rush especially on routes such as the 3, 4, 79, 87 and that one trip on the 35 from my high school. And Chicago would need high capacity for 20, 66, 72, 74, and probably that one 151 trip that it supplements
