jesi2282
I was just wondering if Ashland (between 95th and Lake) is a nice area?
Busjack
It goes through neighborhoods like Englewood, Back of the Yards, Pilsen, Medical District, and the West Loop. I don't want to prejudge (not knowing your ethnic background, for instance), but you might want to do a search of the Tribune or Sun Times for stories on those areas. Definitely the Englewood portion is in an economic downturn, while Pilsen now claims to be a tourist destination.
RIPTA42
I don't know if I would call it a "tourist destination," but Pilsen definitely isn't unsafe. There are some neat galleries popping up there, as well as great food. Englewood, though... I wouldn't want to ride through there on a bus. The area around the United Center isn't so hot, either, though that's getting better with the Horner Homes almost gone.
Chi-town Kid
Basically, anything south of Pershing on Ashland I would stay away from. Englewood is in the toilet, Back of the Yards isn't even that great, and I don't think the neighborhood to the south of Englewood is that great either. The X9 passes through good areas on the north side, though.
