Would it have caused a ridership change on the pink line warranting more railcars for that line? The difference now is that Danny Wirtz and his development partners want the station, and the alderman wants the $7 Billion, no subsidy development. If they do build a new station, then do it the right way & rebuild the tracks so a center island station is built, not two sidebar platforms. The center island types are cheaper to maintain over the years, as they don't need duplicate elevators & escalators, because they can't get operating funds from the feds like they get construction funding from those same feds all the time. It's also safer for the passengers, as there are more people on the platform, making it more difficult for criminals to operate there!
Busjack
Sun-Times article to the effect that Danny Wirtz and Michael Reinsdorf are bullish (my intentional pun) on the station, "but it's up to the CTA."
