Pink Line United Center station?

I thought we should consolidate this here, since the idea is gaining "traction." Lynn Sweet column: United Center mega-project sounds enticing, Burnett says. But who'll pay for new Pink Line station? Zoning Committee head  "said the new station and related infrastructure improvements have been at the center of negotiations with city planners." The question is whether a TIF district will be extended to pay for the station and other public infrastructure, given the huge private development and the $80 million cost of the Damen Green Line station.

If they do build a new station, then do it the right way & rebuild the tracks so a center island station is built, not two sidebar platforms.  The center island types are cheaper to maintain over the years, as they don't need duplicate elevators & escalators, because they can't get operating funds from the feds like they get construction funding from those same feds all the time.  It's also safer for the passengers, as there are more people on the platform, making it more difficult for criminals to operate there!
