A Cook County judge has found the Chicago Transit Authority to be legally responsible for the derailment of a Blue Line subway train in July, clearing the way for a larger battle over the amount of damages that injured riders should receive. More than 100 riders have filed suit over the July 11 accident in which a Blue Line train derailed and sparked a fire west of the Clark/Lake subway stop. Did CTA riders__________________________?

A. Won the case when the Cook County judge who ruled against the defendant, Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) to award the riders.

B. Lose the case when the Cook County judge who ruled against them to award Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).

I don't see the point of the poll, when the answer is clear in the first sentence of the story (which I highlighted in bold). The answer is sort of A, but, again, based on my legal training, the riders only won the point that the CTA was negligent (a point that really can't be contested given the duty of care owed by a common carrier and the fact that the condition of the track was under its exclusive control), but no one wins a final judgment until it is proved that their injuries were caused by that negligence, and the extent of those injuries. Answer B is only for the cognitively impaired.

Kevin, the point of this thread is the riders who sued over the accident which is back in July 11th after the 5 CTA employees were fired by the CTA president, Frank Kruesi at Chicago Transit Authority Headquarters. Five were identified as.

2.) BRUCE McFALL Track Inspector

3.) DARRELL NELSON Track Foreman

4.) FRED TIJAN Manager of Track Maintenance

5.) JOSEPH RYAN Track Engineer and Supervising Manager
