trainman8119
Heading to work on Saturday, I saw a string of 6 2900's (2960 range) that were parked in the Rosemont Yard adjoining the repair house. They all had Red Line Howard sineage. Might this be part of the revamping...reducing Red Line equipment and redistributing it to the Blue ??? Doesn't make too much sense that the stuff would be there for repair.
Busjack
The last chicago-l.org Car Assignment Page confirms what I thought, that that range was assigned to the Purple Line. In any event, the cars would be from Howard Yard, and Red and Purple readings are on the same set of signs. That would also tend to support your supposition, but would that mean that they are cutting back the Purple Line a month early?
RJL6000
I can confirm this equipment reassignment: Yesterday, I saw cars 2965-2966 at the head of an eight-car Blue Line train of mixed 2200- and 2600-series cars pulling into the Forest Park terminal (near DesPlaines Avenue and the Eisenhower Expressway). And speaking of cutbacks on the North Side lines, expect a few 3200-series cars and additional 2600-series cars to run on the Green and Pink Lines in the next several months.
