Archon
DO all CTA Busses have ZF Transmissions?
rmadisonwi
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe the 5300s have Allison transmissions. Not sure about the ex-Pace Orions.
busfan
Correct, The 5300's had Allisons. The Ex-Pace Orions had ZF's.
rmadisonwi
Since this topic has been brought back to life, I figured I'd add that the 800-series buses don't have ZF transmissions either, but rather a hybrid-drive system by Allison. If I'm understanding the technology correctly, the 900-series buses won't have transmissions at all. I don't know if what the 800s have is technically a transmission, or some other mechanism that combines diesel and electric power. I'm not an expert in the different hybrid technologies out there (I get the general gist of series vs. parallel, but don't know all the technicalities). See ISE's explanation of the difference between the Allison and its system.
