RJL6000
Awesome! Which Line? Unfortunately, none of the four are in revenue service any longer; they all have been retired in 1985. Three of the four articulated cars still exist in transportation museums; the only one that's still in an operable condition is car 5001 (which resides at the Fox River Trolley Museum south of Elgin, IL, restored to the paint scheme in which it was originally delivered). Car 52 (5002) is on static display at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL, while Car 53 (5003) went to Monticello, IN (where it's also on static display); both cars are in the 1980s paint scheme which they were retired from the CTA in. Car 54 (5004) was sold to a museum in Indiana, but eventually scrapped when it fell into disrepair. The articulated 5000s were built by two companies: Pullman Standard built the first two (5001 and 5002), while the St. Louis Car Co. built the other two (5003 and 5004). When are those new (5000s) Trains are expecting to be in service? I will hate to see the Budd 2200s to go, they are my favorites but those 2400s and early 2600s needs to retire. Here is some updated information regarding #53 in Montecello, IL http://rypn.sunserver.com/forum/viewtopic....f=2&t=25630
Whippersnapper
When I was a kid I used to see car #53 sitting at that museum from I-72 while on my way to nearby Robert Allerton Park.
westing
Awhile back someone at IRM told me 5002 can operate but is in poor condition. A problem with 5002 is the unit has pantographs and IRM's electrical feed is mainly designed for trolleys with only limited sections of the line capable of operating equipment with pantographs.
