What are some of the updates?
-
For some reason all of 74th 8350’s are sidelined. Not sure if it’s for new fare box installations cause we’re the next garage to get them or they’re about to go to another garage lol we’ll see.
-
So what did 74th get in exchange for losing 8000-8009?
-
I think it has to do with them not having enough diesel exhaust fluid inside them. Cause not all of the newer novas make that irritating noise. At 74th it’s like 2 or 3 8700’s that do it and 8214 makes this noise too.

Literally just saw 8350 pull into my garage at 74th. 🤔🤔
-
I remember my 1st time seeing them. 1st 2 things that made me like them was one the simplicity of it looked like an updated version of the 4000 series MAN buses I grew up riding as a kid in the 90’s. And the 2nd was of course them being updated versions of the 5800 new flyers that came out in 95. When I 1st started at cta in 2012 the 1000 series were a good 6yrs old in service and till this day my favorite bus to operate. I ask for one all the time cause one day they’ll be gone 😞. So I’m glad they still in service. 1852, and 1486 are my favorites ones lol I have history with those buses going back to my days at 103rd. 1486 is at 74th with me now lol.

Lol they can complain all they want but FG operators will have to get use to those older 7900-8324 novas. The breaking isn’t as smooth as the 8325’s and up but it’s not horrible neither. Once you get use to the breaking it’s cool. I think FG will be all flyers just like they was all 6400 novas a few yrs back. 74th will get more new novas and possibly NP.
-
I can agree with you about 7 tearing the buses up but I’m offended when you said 6 lol. I work out 74th garage and we take good care of our buses as operators especially me lol. 77th is known for their operators being reckless with the buses but not 74th.

This would probably explain why I seen 1783 I believe at my garage at 74th. But that normally don’t or not suppose to happen. It’s a few possibilities I think happened here. 1. If the supervisor told the operator to do that that supervisor was probably new on the street. Cause when we jump buses it’s suppose to be out of the same garage. For example if the next bus was a Nova snd the operator was out of NP they before didn’t have novas and the majority of those operators never drove one, so the supervisor probably didn’t know any better…probably. 2. Perhaps the next bus was a flyer and every garage has them so I guess that happened. 3. Both operators were new and neither didnt know that you had to jump buses with your garage only also control probably gave the order and didn’t know what they were doing neither lol. I been here 12yrs and I never had this happen to me nor heard of this happening.

YES!!! I can not wait to go to work Tuesday and I pull out I’m definitely going to ask for a new Nova if it’s any left for sure lol.
-
Word on the street is 74th will in fact get new novas and probably soon. Ashland has just got extended to Lawrence so we may get them sooner than later.
-
I finally rode the 7000’s today I was on 7086 to be exact to UIC which was the last stop. They look better in person and the interior was nice too. I’ll try to catch them again to O Hare.
-
Lately I been seeing on the blue line nothing but 3200 consist. I haven’t seen them mixed with any 2600’s what’s going on with that? Have more 2600’s been moved to the brown and orange lines?
-
I saw 8707 at 77th yesterday. I wonder when or if any of these new Novas will make their way to 74th Garage or even North Park eventually. I’ve been an operator for 12yrs now and the Flyers were at least 6 when I started lol. They’re starting to really show their age now and I know they’ll be gone after while 😞. So I’m sure NP will have to get some Novas too.
-
8700’s better come to 74th or I’m flipping tables lol.
-
I just hope the 9000’s would at least be compatible with the 7000 series. Once the 26 and 3200’s are gone it’s possible we’ll never see a mix series of rail cars again 😞.
-
How in the hell did kedzie get new novas before 74th garage is beyond me smh ??
-
I saw some 7000’s on the Orange Line yesterday at midway yard. Maybe they’re going over there next perhaps?
-
This is my question now I’m currently at 74th but my home garage is 103rd and I was still there when 8325-42 came and I know how they ride in comparison to the 7900-8324 novas. My question is do the 8350’s and up drive the same as the 8325’s and up cause the breaking was smoother on those series of novas. I’ll assume the 8350’s and up drive the same.
-
When in the hell is 74th getting some of the newer novas is what I wanna know. And why do 77th always getting new buses over 74th ?.
-
Busjack everyone ??????
-
I like the blue end caps too I just wish they made them grey I just think they look better over the blue but it’s cool I like the 7000’s design overall cause to me they look like an updated version of the 2200 series and it’s so ironic they’re starting out on the Blue line ???.
-
I wish they painted the blue ends gray like the rest of the fleet. They would look better gray or even black.
-
Thanks for that explanation ??? and that explains a lot for me. I still feel those newer buses should be at an indoor garage at least until someday in the near future The Glen will upgrade to a new facility or something along those lines lol.
-
I said this yrs ago so if it came to pass I wouldn’t be surprised. I think as far as the newer novas go, FG don’t need the brand new ones cause they don’t have a bus washer it seems cause when it snow and a few days later they buses be crazy ashy as well as NP buses lol. Give them brand new buses to an indoor garage that’s able to wash them at the end of the day and they can look like new buses lol. Give FG the older current buses they’ll be just fine lol.
