CTA Bus Powertrain Information

I was wondering about the powertrains that are in CTAs buses. I know the NABI 60LFWs have Series 50/ZF and I think the 1000s have ISM/Voith, but what powertrains do the rest of the models have. Also, just a little curiousity, why does the voice annunoncement system leave out the street suffix. I'm from Baltimore and we have the same Clever Devices system but I'm kinda of confused as to why that is so?

If you are referring to St. or Ave., that is because it is of little significance to Chicagoans, unless an outsider speaks a mistake, such as Howard Ave. or the like. According to Streetwise Chicago, various Brennan ordinances resulted in the city renaming streets with duplicate names. Numbered avenues (40th and west) were given names, usually in the alphabetical sequence (K through P). The only exception would be boulevards then under Park District jurisdiction, and I doubt that anyone near Marquette Road (6700 S) knows or cares about Marquette Ave. in South Chicago. Also, unlike some cities, there is no consistent pattern of Streets being EW and Avenues being NS. We know what Kedzie, Pulaski, Cicero, and 35th are, and even that Chicago refers to the avenue and not the city in this context. Destination signs also refer only to the street name.

I'm sure that the CD could be programmed with whatever was necessary. The more interesting debate was that Mr. CTA used a Wisconsin rather than Chicago accent for some streets, such as Clybourn.

The 1000s have a ZF, not a Voith. I don't know of anything currently in the fleet with a voith (could be wrong, though).

As for the suffix, a few streets do announce the suffix: North Avenue, most of the numbered streets, there's an announcement for "West LaSalle Drive" on the 22, "Exit here for Chicago Avenue" on Michigan at Superior/Huron, and a handful of others.

What powertrains do the LFS's have. I saw a couple of clips and I know they have Cummins/ZF. I dunno what kind of Cummins engine though. Another thing thats been on my mind. Whats with the all red turn and tails? Just curious about that.

NOVA LFS have either the Cummins 8.3L ISC Diesel Engine or Cummins M-11 Diesel Engine(info from google). The New Flyer D40LF's(1000-Series) have a Cummins ISL Diesel Engine. The New Flyer D40LF's(5800-Series) have the Detroit Series-50.
