jajuan Posted November 24, 2008 Report Share Posted November 24, 2008 There is nothing about 201 on the Customer Alerts list, although I do see that the 2 and 15 are being rerouted around Obama's house. Coincidence? The rerouting of the 2 and 15 were originally a part of the Nov. 3-4 election activities reroutings. Apparently the Secret Service wanted the street clear of traffic to make it easier to transport Obama to the Election Night rally in Grant Park. Once it became clear that Obama would be the President-elect, the Secret Service extended the closing of Hyde Park Blvd indefinitely and now the 2 and 15 reroutings will be in effect until further notice. Sounds like CTA will have to go ahead and make the reroutings a permanent change instead of a longterm detour. It will be easier logistically than changing back to the prior routing just to change to what it is now whenever the Obama family returns to Chicago for vacation time during Mr. Obama's presidency. Maybe this will lead to a new verison of the old 1 Drexel Hyde Park coming back and the old 38 Indiana route to come back( oh yea.... the 38 is now a west side route). To have an Obama route, you would need an Obama Street. Which one would you rename? I'm putting my money on 95th, although a side bet on 51st, including Hyde Park Blvd. portion of 51st. If a Chicago street were renamed, I'd also make a bet on 51st including the Hyde Park portion since that is the president-elects neighborhood.
