ctaboy
A long time ago I saw 5800 New Flyers running the route 144 Marine/Michigan Express route, but when I was gonna catch a 144 but all I saw was 1000 New Flyers,I usually catch those tybe of buses just for a bus ride. So I just caught a 145 Wilson/Michigan Express to Wilson/Ravenswood,and then I took it back to State/Van Buren.

When the now retired 4400s were into that last fast track decrease at NP, that's basically when 1000s started to become the dominant bus on that route. The 5800s were also on a big decrease at the same time, so that also was a factor.
Busjack
The guy who counts them said only 5 were left in mid-December. So, if you take the odds of 5 out of 260 buses (or even 5 out of maybe 165 40 foot buses), you can figure out that your chances are slim (although reportedly not yet none). BusHunter
If you were looking for a #5800 this past Tuesday on the #144, you would have been happy. #5820 followed by #5837 were on that route. Although some days they don't appear there, they also have a tendency to show up on the #135 and #136's, but not as much. These are placed in the most logical place. These routes are rush only when yards are emptying and your down to your last few buses to send out, they get sent out. Also with them being on peak direction routes only they get used less and are less likely to screw up.
