sw4400
Is there any specific way the CTA Bus Garages choose which bus #'s are on which route, or is it completely random? For Example: On the #11 Lincoln route(a route I ride very often), most of the TMC's are the 4400 Series and 4500 Series with an occasional 4600 Series. What suprises me is sometimes, I'll see a bus # like 4741, 4758, 4762, or a 4832. Even though these ARE TMC's, they are unusual as they are high number TMC's. So, is there a method for choosing the bus #'s?
Busjack
With regard to this particular question, see the linked post: NP got whatever 4400s were rehabbed at the time.
trainman8119
Usually buses are assigned depending on maintenance issues. Assignments are based on mileage of the route, when a bus is due for a specific fix, etc. Also, some buses have counters on them and perhaps a specific run needs to be counted, that bus will be put on. Also, in off times, they will ask a driver what he wants to take out, if the bus is clean, he gets it.
