west towns
Did my ears actually hear on the news today that Metra is planning to take credit cards for tickets or am I imagining this? Anyone know details? What happened, did Uncle Phil go soft on his riding public or was the threat of legislative action too much to handle? Anyone know details? What happened, did Uncle Phil go soft on his riding public or was the threat of legislative action too much to handle? According to the Tribune and the Daily Herald, megabucks are being spent to update the web site and also take credit cards. The target date for the cards is February. Uncle Phil is blaming himself...but since he is leaving soon, I am sure he could care less. My guess is that the board got nervous.
Busjack
A Sun-Times story with more detail. Of course, while it mentions Metra not having electronic tickets, it doesn't mention the roboconductor problem of enforcing zone fares we previously discussed. Busjack
The article about using the cell phones as a smart card or a smart bank card seems to indicate that the conductors will have to wear some sort of hand-held device.
