Why Was Route #288 Discontinued?

After looking at Pace's website I noticed that Pace has discontinued its #288 Auto Show Express service, I rode route #288 during its last year of operation (2007) and there was large number of passengers on each bus, on some buses there was standing room only, after that it didn't operate in 2008 because of the budget mess, and just before the 2009 show, the #288 infomation on their website was taken down, no Passenger Notice or Press Release was ever put up. Does anyone have any idea why #288 was discontinued?

The only thing I could find was this: http://www.pacebus.com/sub/espd/chicago_auto_show.asp

Maybe they didn't want to encourage any more riders from buying cars and stop taking the bus?
