qwantae Posted May 20, 2010 Report Posted May 20, 2010 What happened to few remaining Flyer D901 as a work bus? Haven't seen one since around 2007 in Downtown. I'm assuming that it had been retired when an 4900 replaced it. Quote
sw4400 Posted May 23, 2010 Report Posted May 23, 2010 What happened to few remaining Flyer D901 as a work bus? Probably scrapped. It was a shame to see the condition of some of these towards the end of their useful life (especially WB-2). That bus was burning a lot of oil. The only bus I knew 3 of the 4 numbers of was the one Kevin photographed, as I seen that bus under the Metra tracks on Lincoln. 9963, 9965 or 9968 was that former bus' service number. Quote
BusExpert32 Posted May 29, 2010 Report Posted May 29, 2010 What do the CTA's work buses usually do on a daily basis? Are there any hot spots to see them regularly (outside of the garages)? Quote
sht6131 Posted May 30, 2010 Report Posted May 30, 2010 What do the CTA's work buses usually do on a daily basis? Are there any hot spots to see them regularly (outside of the garages)? During my employment we had one bus and crew assigned to our department to revise, relocate and install passenger info signs. They also maintained the painted parking stalls at the Park N Ride lots Some of you may not remember but they also maintained the street steering column guide lines used for street turns and off street terminal berthing. BusExpert32 Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 I just heard that one of them is going to be assigned to E117s firehouse at 4900 W. Chicago Ave. Ill keep everyone updated on this info. Im excited about seeing #6000 Flxs having a second career with the CFD. Im hoping they give it that nice paint job they did on #5858. Were any of the CFD ex-CTA New Flyers, Flxibles, or TMC used in the recent red line fire? Quote
Guest Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Were any of the CFD ex-CTA New Flyers, Flxibles, or TMC used in the recent red line fire? I know that the CFD New Flyer or "The Oxygen Bus" as it is now referred to, per CFD General Orders, the bus will be dispatched to all mass casualty incidents, high rise and all CTA subway incidents. I was looking at news footage of the subway fire I didnt see the bus visible in any of the footage, but I know it wouldve been dispatched there, especially an incident of this nature where you have fire in an underground tunnel with limited ventilation and hundreds of persons trying to reach safety. The bus would have been really shined in this incident, it can provide helpful oxygen to 20 patients at a time. This is the vehicle you would want to have at this type of incident. Quote
