Metra Milwaukee West Grand av. crossing to get bridge in Elmwood Park

Recommended Posts

Found a link that said the Village of Elmwood Park plans to put a underpass or overpass at the infamous Grand avenue crossing. That was the spot of the 2005 Metra collision involving 16 cars. (Its on my youtube) it's a top priority for the village. The state says it's the sixth most dangerous and deadly crossing and the NTSB labels it "inherently dangerous" 24 million has been secured for an engineering study through 2024. So eventually it looks like they will get their crossing.

So it looks like it will take a total of 20 years ( starting from 2005) before any ground is broken on this project.   While an overpass or underpass eliminates the rail conflict, traffic along Grand continues to be problematic.

True, but everyone has a car nowadays so there will be more traffic. It will help the police and fire which is cut off by the train from points south of grand. I guess they can rely on River Grove if the emergency did warrant it because they are on the south side of the tracks.
