NOVA #6400/ 6401

When and Why did 77th transfer an Nova #6400 to Chicago? And last friday, I've saw #6401 running #20 Madison in Downtown, was that bus at 77th at first?

I know that Chicago Garage has at least up to #6405, spotted it on the #73 in September. I'm not sure, but I think some Novas were transferred from 77th to Chicago last year to help out with extra service that Chicago recieved such as #20 and #X54. But I'm really not sure about this. And then again Chicago Garage did not send any buses to 77th in return. 77th Garage really has an extra amount of buses compared to other garages, just like with the 11 1200s (#1226-#1236) going to North Park for nothing in return as well. But I'm really not sure which type of buses 77th recieved from North Park in return for those 7500s recently.

77th sent buses 6400-6407 to Chicago Ave. for the extra three-track bus service, also are you sure you saw 6401 on the #20 Madison or was it on the #X20?, because I don't think 6401 is equipped with the GPS Bustracker.

It seems as thought its becoming harder and harder to keep track of how CTA assigns its buses and how many buses and to what garages. They seem to be so scattered all over the city.

I was figured that they also send them to Chicago for help with 66-Chicago which is the worst route for Chicago Garage. Most of them be at Downtown Area and barely none on the west side, I mostly have to wait for 45 minutes by Central at my church.

I believe it was #20 but I agree that bus #6401 couldn't have that GPS Bustracker that quick. Maybe it was just running for rush hour or how many Novas are there with GPS Tracker?

By the way, are they suppose to increase more routes with GPS Trackers, if the service dont cut?

When was the last Nova recieved?

In September 2002 as Nova #6883, and CTA was the last ones in United States (APTA) that received them until The Plant ceased in New York. Hopelly they'll come back to U.S. so that by the time the NABI 7500s retirement, we could get Nova Artics 60 ft like the currently ordering in process for Montreal (STM).

In my opinion, Nova artics would be a terrible choice for the CTA. I see a few flaws:

- Nova is clearly not a stable company, meaning that we couldn't rely on them for parts and maintainence. I must note that artics are significantly harder to maintain than 40-footers

- The NABIs will surely be retired prematurely, which wouldn't give Nova a period of time to become stable before CTA's next purchase.

- Even if Nova could become stable for a long period of time, I don't see many transit agencies purchasing the 60-footers. We'd be getting a model which, simply put, isn't well tested. Hmmn, when have we done that before?

- The 6400s are BOUNCY AS F*CK!!! Artics always bounce more because they're not as stable on the ground, but the front wheel's current placement (as on the 6400s) would make them unbearably bouncy.

One question: Are the Nova 60-footers hybrid buses? If not, then I don't think CTA will be purchasing them. I'd like to think that we're somewhat progressive, and my hopes seem to be confirmed by CTA testing multiple types of hybrid motors and purchasing the New Flyer artics.

A totally irresponsible statement!

Nova is part of Prevost, which is part of Volvo Truck (not related to Volvo cars). It saying that it can't make money in the U.S. transit market is not the equivalent of saying it is not stable.

On the other hand, NABI went through a bankruptcy reorganization.

You could, for the same reason, say the MAN and Daimler are not stable (although, in the latter case, while it no longer sells MB buses here, it does own Orion). You know that is not the case.
