geneking7320
Have you folks noticed that generally Pace and CTA manage to avoid having active revenue vehicles with the same number series (I think 6000s would be the exception). Busjack
Have you folks noticed that generally Pace and CTA manage to avoid having active revenue vehicles with the same number series (I think 6000s would be the exception). In the 1970s, it was because the RTA ordered the equipment. The RTA ordered the suburban 8000s at the same time as the CTA 9600s. The RTA, and then Pace, apparently continued that number range with the 8200, 8600s, and 8700 series. After that, it appears to be a matter of coincidence, and having 6000s for CTA, Pace, and Metra at the same time sort of ends any effort to keep series separate. With the bus authorities, one also has to realize that there are series for work trucks, and in Pace's case, various series for vans and paratransit vehicles. RIPTA42
No, CTA avoids having buses and rail cars with the same numbers. There are plenty of 'L' cars that overlap with Pace buses.

There are plenty of 'L' cars that overlap with Pace buses. An example is the Boeing Vertol 2400s [CTA Green and Purple Lines] vs Pace's 2400s which I have seen serving routes terminating at the 95th/Ryan Red Line station. I think we have had prior discussions on confusion between CTA and Pace 6000s on Cermak, for instance.
