Danielsmusic
I just got home, and the bus I took home (#72) was run by Nova 6673. What was odd about this bus was that it had new seats. They're taller, wider, and rounder than the old ones. I'll be posting pictures tonight, but if anyone takes the 72, try to catch this one. Kevin
The CTA retrofitted a couple Novas with prototype seats a few years ago when they were considering switching seat types. That's likely what you saw.

This is a test bus at Chicago garage that tests one of two different seating manufacturers equipment. This has been around for about 1 -2 years. ( there was a press conference about it) The other test bus is #6462 at 77th garage. I've been on #6462 but haven't had the chance to board #6673 so I look forward to seeing your pictures. Thanks alot Danielsmusic!! This test most likely paved the way for the new seats you see on Optima's and higher numbered 1000's. BTW, if anyone is interested bus #6828 and #6827 are sporting a new seat insert I've never seen before. It is royal blue all over and has little tiny black dots on it. Seen it in December. I did seen a few 2600s on Blue and Red Line with Royal Blue color seats, couldnt remember the exact number of the series anyhow.
Danielsmusic
I did seen a few 2600s on Blue and Red Line with Royal Blue color seats, couldnt remember the exact number of the series anyhow. Some of the 2400s, 2600s, and 3200s out of Howard have blue seats. There are two shades of blue seats. The fainter ones are from when Morrison-Knudsen(Knudson?) refurbed the 2600s. The more vivid shade is put on cars with really messed-up seats when they're worked on.

Danielsmusic
Pics of the Nova seats coming sometime today. My camera isn't working, so I'm having a hard time uploading the pics.
BusHunter
Re: The blue seats mentioned on some Red Line cars...I've also seen those seats on one Forest Glen Nova. I don't know, I've seen some blue seats on the red line (the originals after the #2600 series rehab) and if that is what you are talking about these seats are different. I know #6800 is sporting the same seat insert(throughout the entire bus) as you see on most #6000 series rehabs. That is also blue. This insert I'm talking about is really deep blue like the color of the header piece where it says Chicagobus on this website. ( better at bus news than computer lingo I'm sorry) Plus the insert is really thin. It has no body to it. I really don't like it . It looks really cheap or cheesy. I should have took a picture. rmadisonwi
The seats I'm talking about are standard design seats (not the test seats that were installed on whatever buses), as found on the L cars and the buses. It's just that the seat covers have the deep, dark blue color to them (I've seen a couple of Red Line cars with these seats). I was just pointing out that I had seen the same color seats on a Forest Glen Nova bus. The difference is striking compared to the standard seat inserts you'll find on other buses. I think I know the covers you're talking about. The weave pattern is different. I think it results in more blue coloring in the pattern. Now I notice that it's not tiny black dots it's black lines that create a diamond mosaic on the seats.

BusHunter
I finally figured out these blue seats. According to yesterday's press conference (about new seats being tested in the railcars ) these seats are a test seat that is anti - stain and more able to resist graffiti. I was watching ABC 7 news and I seen the same blue seats on these test railcars #2898-97 at Skokie shops. I wonder if the news footage is on their website still? What really has me wondering is how did a test seat get employed on a Nova bus? Perhaps the test involves buses too. Plus yesterday I seen #6882 with these seats too. I'm starting to believe that maybe these seats will be on all Nova buses soon at the Glen and maybe other places.

They were completely differently shaped. The covers were the standard ones, just the seats themselves were different. Plus yesterday I seen #6882 with these seats too. I'm starting to believe that maybe these seats will be on all Nova buses soon at the Glen and maybe other places. If anything happens, it might be at Chicago because they had the first test seats. Wow I think we are talking about two different things. Shape? First test seats at Chicago? You sound like you are talking about #6673. I'm talking about seat inserts. There is no shape difference. Anyway I recorded ABC 7 news broadcast that day and can review it over and over. Oh man, I hope that the hard fiberglass seats I saw in the broadcast don't become reality. They are ugly and look like they'd be hard on your butt.
