sw4400
Are there underpasses on Artic routes that are impassable by the 7500-Series NABI 60-LFW and 4000-Series New Flyer DE60LF's? I was at Wilson and Ravenswood, and saw 75xx snaking under the Metra Line at like 2-3 mph like the operator was unsure if it'd fit, I saw him/her looking out the window as the bus rolled through(and it just barely did BTW. There was probably 1/8th of an inch between overpass and roof mounted HVAC units). Are there actual underpasses an articulated bus can get stuck under? I thought the CTA had vehicles that could clear all underpasses in this city. Dimensions at Wilson and Ravenswood I believe were 10'-6"(I don't remember totally)
PACE 834
According to New Flyer's web site, their artics are 121" tall which would come to 10'1".The overpass@Ravenswood is 10'6" that would be with no snow on the street,so it would be real tight clearances. Actually your DE60LFs are 127". You were looking at the diesel specifications, not the hybrid specs which can be found here, http://newflyer.com/index/hybrid_de30_35_40_60
T8H5307A
This topic reminds me back when the MAN Americana's were around and there were the 3 that had the Sutrak rooftop air conditioners and the one day some operator had 4290 on the 145 and forgot about that underpass! OOPS!
Busjack
This topic reminds me back when the MAN Americana's were around and there were the 3 that had the Sutrak rooftop air conditioners and the one day some operator had 4290 on the 145 and forgot about that underpass! OOPS!I sort of looked into that when someone in the Yahoo groups suggested getting Dennis double deckers. Most of the overpasses on the north side (Red Line and UP North) are posted in the 11 foot range. There was some talk that the signs underestimated the clearance, but given a report such as this, you wonder how CMC ran double deckers on those routes. Certainly, the 14 foot Dennis wouldn't work.
