well about two weeks ago, my sister was forced to leave Archer to go to Kedzie immediately. she absolutely hate Kedzie. she didn't understand their routes and don't like artics which i just laughed about. but now she sort of getting there, the best thing is, she getting more work. what I didn't know in my 1 year with CTA is that they can transfer you without notice at anytime. I wish i could've took her place though, but I love 74th.

I'm not a driver, but is this a result of being near the bottom in seniority or on the extra board, a system pick, or just something that happened?

The "getting more work" seems to indicate being on the extra board, but is that what actually happened?

Whenever there is a manpower shortage at any garage, volunteers to transfer will be sought out first. If this does not compensate the need enough, then the forced transfers will occur....which sounds to be the result of this operators sister. In this case, the lowest on the totem pole gets bumped first.

A system pick is something different.

"Getting extra work" is referenced to getting more work over scheduled hours (OT, extra hours on top of PTO schedule, etc.). You don't have to be on the extra board to get extra work...this wouldn't be fair needless to say. Does seniority play in getting extra work, yes and no. It is more likely that if work becomes unfilled, and it cannot be filled from the shows on the extra board, a part-timer is more likely to get offered it (ie. since they receive no OT pay even for work over 40 hours), versus a full-timer (whom would get OT for work over 40), UNLESS there is that great of a shortage of bodies and it becomes a matter of "just getting the run filled" by whomever will work it.

what i meant by getting more work...she gets more hrs than she did @ archer.

I'm a 2 year retiree part-timers can be transfered to any garage when the authority deems its an emergency. It's always good to move around anyway, it's a great way to learn the city and you should always follow your seniority. In your sisters case it worked out she's getting more hours.
